Ongoing Solos are the audio contributions from each of the 50 featured musical collaborators, with 10 additional contributions forthcoming in the order submitted.
"In September 2023, I decided to limit my creative output to works on paper under the title Assemblage Materials, primarily using a set of 150 colored pencils, with additions of ink, graphite, and gouache to make my marks. At the same time, I’ve been collecting Ongoing Solos since 2022, a collection of 50 recordings by individual musicians responding to the same prompt and visual score. I like how with a simple set of rules, a track-to-track listening experience emerges and expands in live time. Once all 50 recordings are collected and archived, in the same number of days, I’ll complete and cease work on the Assemblage Material drawings. Like how Cage and Cunningham created their work independently from each other, the shared aesthetic of Ongoing Solos and Assemblage Materials will begin to merge and they collectively will become a springboard for a second stage of development and a new set of works: solo music (featuring samples from the Ongoing Solo collaborators) with a series of paintings that correspond.”
